It Only Takes 30 Seconds

I noticed something interesting today.

I ran downstairs between zoom sessions to make dinner.

I was harried. Breathless. Rushed.

So much to do. Always.

I could feel the urgency buzzing in my body.

And then I paused.

I inhaled and focused on the smell of the frying onions.

I watched them change from translucent to golden brown.

I closed my eyes for a moment and listened to the sizzle of the oil.

Within seconds, I felt the shift.

My nervous system changed its rhythm.

I am safe enough to pause.

I can take a moment to notice.

It takes seconds to reroute the energy and the impact lingers throughout the day. Our nervous system is often overwhelmed. And if long, winded meditation feels impossible (and often unrealistic!) in those moments, you are not alone.

Grounding doesn’t have to look like meditation.

It can be simple. Immediate. Sensory.

Using your five senses:

  • Step outside and inhale the fresh air.

  • Look up and notice how many shades of blue are in the sky.

  • Tune into the rustling trees.

  • Slow down as you taste your afternoon snack.

  • Feel the warmth of your cup of coffee for one extra moment.

It’s free. It’s available. It’s accessible.

Each of these activates your body’s natural regulation system and helps shift your brain toward calm.

Regulation doesn’t have to look one specific way.

Your mind and body get to choose what works best for you.

Tune in next time for:

“The repair that matters more than getting it right.”

With warmth,

Shira
